Introduction

The 4th Congress of the Iraqi Society of Anesthesia, Intensive Care, and Pain Medicine (IQSAN Congress 2023)was one of Iraq’s landmark scientific medical events. It brought together leading anesthesiologists, intensivists, and pain medicine specialists from Iraq and abroad. The congress was held on 11–12 August 2023 at the Babylon Rotana Hotel, Baghdad, organized by ISIN for Training and Development.

Objectives

  • Provide a platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise among Iraqi anesthesiologists.
  • Showcase the latest innovations and technologies in anesthesia, intensive care, and pain medicine.
  • Promote professional development and scientific research.
  • Create opportunities for collaboration and scientific partnerships.
  • Strengthen patient safety and improve healthcare quality.

The congress featured scientific sessions and specialized workshops covering:

  • Basic and advanced pain management.
  • Anesthesia in organ transplantation.
  • Critical care anesthesia for adults and pediatrics.
  • Regional anesthesia and nerve blocks.
  • Difficult airway management and intubation techniques.
  • Intensive care (mechanical ventilation, ECMO, brain injury, antimicrobial resistance).

Workshops & Training

The Iraqi Society of Anesthesia, Intensive Care, and Pain Medicine organizes regular hands-on workshops to enhance clinical skills. Recent activities included:

  • Pain Management Courses led by Prof. Dr. Eyad Abbas Salman, focusing on acute and chronic pain care.
  • Ultrasound-Guided Regional Nerve Block Training, providing practical experience with advanced ultrasound techniques.

These workshops, supported by international partners such as VINNO and Draeger, are CME-accredited and combine lectures, case discussions, and practical training. Participants receive certificates, strengthening their expertise and aligning practice in Iraq with global standards.
